Turning Words Into Action

A new generation of farmers is learning how to shear their own sheep in a bid to cut farm costs and supplement farm income as the drought bites. The Advertiser Foundation was happy to support shearing training for young farmers in Jamestown and Peterborough as part of the For Pete's Sake drought relief campaign.

The third annual SkyCity KickStart for Kids against Period Poverty fundraiser raised money, awareness and period products for South Australian girls in need. Kickstart for Kids - a charity partner of the Good Home auction for The Advertiser Foundation Kids' Appeal - delivers more than 1,200 packs of sanitary items monthly to over 200 schools across South Australia, with demand continuing to rise. Ambassadors Bec Morse, Jenna in the Pink and Matilda Scholz and MPs Connie Bonaros MLC and the Hon. Blair Boyer were among the speakers lifting the lid on the challenges facing many South Aussie kids.

Kids' sport in the drought-affected regions of Pinnaroo and Lameroo is bringing the community together at a time when people need it most - and, as part of The Advertiser's 'For Pete's Sake' campaign, The Advertiser Foundation is glad to be providing some free meals for kids at home games through the Southern Mallee Suns Football and Netball club. Compliments to the chef are in order judging from these big grins.
